Frequently asked questions
Learn more about your Mitra skin test, your report and delivery.
What is the Mitra age test and how was it built?
Mitra reads the epigenetic markers on the DNA in your skin cells and turns them into three results: your biological skin age, your visible lines and your photo damage score. Each result comes with a comparison against people of similar age, sex and skin tone.
Mitra’s scientists built the biomarkers using a very large and diverse set of skin samples. The method is described in full in a scientific paper.

Who is the test for? Is there an age limit?
The Mitra age test is for adults aged 18+.
It’s for adults who want to know their skin’s biological age, track what affects it over time, and choose the topical skincare and interventions that suit their skin’s biology.
No prescription or diagnosis is required to order the test.
Is the test available where I live?
The Mitra age test is currently available in select US states and Washington, DC, and we’re working to expand availability in the coming months.
It is not yet available to customers in the following states: AL, CA, CT, GA, HI, IL, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN.
How often should I retest?
Your skin’s biological age responds to topical skincare, interventions and lifestyle changes. We recommend retesting every 3 to 6 months to track progress and adapt the skincare and interventions accordingly.
Is my data protected?
We fiercely protect your privacy every step of the way, and we will never sell your data. Your data is secured with industry-standard technical safeguards, including pseudonymization, encryption and data segmentation, to keep it confidential and intact.
Your sample and results are processed in a CLIA-certified lab in the USA, which meets federal quality standards for clinical laboratory testing.
How long does it take to get the results?
The Mitra age test is the only skin epigenetic test on the market that uses methylation sequencing to analyze 4 million genomic sites.
Because the analysis is intensive, results typically take 4 to 6 weeks from the time your sample arrives at our lab. We’ll email you progress updates along the way.
